Land based Pirate radio has been a fascination of mine since the early 80s, in many ways it was instrumental in shaping the diverse music scene we have today. However as it was an illegal clandestine industry , there is very little footage or information about how it happened and what it was like to be a DJ.
Fortunately the BBC have produced a brilliant documentary exploring the roots of this movement, with interviews with some of the Djs, station owners and even the dreaded DTI.
You can catch it on BBC Four this Friday
